The boomer generation grew up during a time when government authority was questioned by news media and all citizens. Consider the debate over Vietnam, Watergate or Jimmy Carter's economic policies. Whatever happened to investigative journalism and the obligation of each citizen to openly question authority?

Pravda tells us American freedom is gone and we are sheeple. Perhaps, the Russian rag has it right. America, you are slowly being consumed by federal, state and local governments, who are intent on controlling every aspect of your life and death. Much like the repulsive worm, Jabba the Hutt, extortion and slavery are the natural by-product of a government intent on control. Isn't it strange that the mainstream media has failed to accurately cover this story? Here are three possible reasons.
REASON 1 - The Mainstream Media is Corrupt
When you dictate the parameters of a conversation, it is very easy to control actions. During WWII the Axis alliance made effective use of newspapers and radio to shower disinformation on the homeland and occupied countries. Ask a non Jewish German citizen who grew up in the 1930's how they perceived their government. They had an impression of a modern well run regime put in place to help the people. The German media did not question the official position. Nazism helped by mass media operators made a conscious decision to join the propagandists rather than fight. Many for access to power, payoffs or because they actually believed the garbage from the ministry. A corrupt media is one which ignores the truth for some type of payoff.
From a practical standpoint the time to fight a totalitarian regime is well before it obtains substantial power. A modern day example is Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez who this year decided to pull the licenses from 34 radio stations. This follows repeated clashes between the private free Venezuelan media and government officials. Most citizens have no clue what's happening as government run media does not report these closures. Chavez said previously that the revoked licenses could be given to broadcasters who share his socialist vision.
REASON 2 - The Mainstream Media is Lazy
It is far easier for a reporter to wait for a government press officer to spoon feed stories instead of the hard work associated with uncovering the truth. Most stories are just regurgitation of an official position without question. Has the mainstream media reported the nuances of HR3200? Laziness may be a prerequisite for big name teleprompter reading correspondents but I still find that smaller media sources do a much better job researching stories. Take a look at a well researched New Times article Something Smells in Glendale by Sarah Fenske. It details the backroom negotiations between the City of Glendale Arizona, U.S. Bankruptcy Court and Jerry Reinsdorf.
REASON 3 - The Mainstream Media has a Financial Stake in Avoiding Controversy
Radio and TV show host Glenn Beck pokes fun at politicians, unions and collectivist groups. His show is a combination of media circus and individual freedom. Even though Beck self identifies as a Libertarian, his ideology is more conservative. The show does a good job of poking a big stick into the rear ends of the special interest lobbies.
Special interest groups intent on suppressing Beck's criticisms like colorofchange.org have retaliated by threatening Beck's sponsors. Many of these soft bellied sponsors have pulled ads on his show.
THE DIRTY DOZEN:
ConAgra, Roche, Sanofi-Aventis, RadioShack, Men's Wearhouse, State Farm Sargento, Lawyers.com, Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance, SC Johnson and GEICO
I understand the reasoning each of these companies used when deciding to pull their ads but I am unwilling to purchase products from any company which further suppresses free expression.
What happened to boomer Americans as they grew into their 40s, 50s and 60s? I find no reason for these latent radicals to tolerate a corrupt mainstream media except that many have become lazy slugs with latch key children, unpaid debts, foreclosures and unrelenting demands on expanded government assistance. Personal responsibility is a quaint idea that was popular once upon a time. I am ashamed to associate myself with this pathetic boomer crowd. Instead, I welcome the next generation who understands how they are being screwed and support the ideals of individual freedom espoused by Ron Paul.
